A few days after hosting 84,000 spectators across 5 days at the Adelaide Oval Ashes Test, South Australian Premier Steven Marshall has reintroduced tough restrictions on home gatherings in South Australia. Marshall claims although Omicron is less severe than the Delta variant that without further new restrictions “It will overwhelm our health system and seriously undermine our workforce’s ability to respond to this Omicron outbreak.”
During the holiday and new years period only 10 people can gather for home based activities per household. Furthermore gyms and hospitality venues will be subject to tough density limits, which will impact their ability to trade during one of the busiest times of the year.
Despite 90% of the eligible population almost being fully vaccinated in South Australia, Marshall claims that the way to see through these new restrictions is to keep getting vaccinated and taking boosters when eligible.
