Victoria has banned gas connections in all new homes and government/public buildings starting in Jan 2024, with a move to transition the state into an all-electric future to reduce emissions.
The announcement comes on the heels of the UN declaring that the world is now in a phase of man-made “Global Boiling,” and without even harsher measures against climate change, the future is catastrophic.
The Victorian government is positioning this ban as a way to ease pressure on the cost of living and help Victorians with increasing gas bills. They are also encouraging Victorians to install more solar panels to further reduce costs.
However, with skyrocketing electricity costs already, and infrastructure that seems lacking, there are concerns about whether this ban will achieve the intended outcome.
These types of bans are only the beginning if you ask me.
